Chinese Taipei U20 beat Macau U20 5:0 on Sunday in the first group stage match of the AFC U20 Cup. The hosts opened their campaign with a comprehensive win at home. Lee Yen-Ju put them ahead in the eighteenth minute before the interval.
Macau showed little resistance as the game wore on. L. Yiqiao doubled the lead just after the break in the forty-seventh minute, and H. Wang added a third six minutes later. By then the visitors had little to offer going forward.
D. Finotti made the difference twice in the second half. He scored his first in the sixty-seventh minute and snatched his second at the death in the eighty-ninth. Things came to a head for Macau when they were caught in possession late on.
Chinese Taipei arrived with mixed recent results, including draws and losses against stronger opposition. Macau had been even worse off, losing four of their last four matches by a combined margin of twelve goals. To be fair, this was a new challenge for both sides.
The result puts Chinese Taipei three points clear at the top of the group. Macau sit at the bottom with zero points from one game. The visitors are closing in on elimination as the group stage progresses.
