El Mokawloon secured a 1-0 victory over El Gouna in the third round of Egypt's Premier League at the El Gouna stadium on Tuesday. Mostafa Gamal converted a penalty in the 44th minute to provide the decisive moment, and his side held on despite El Gouna's dominance in possession.
Gamal's spot-kick came after the referee awarded a penalty, and the El Mokawloon striker made no mistake from the spot. By then the hosts had been probing for an opening, but the visitors' defence remained compact. El Gouna pressed forward after the break, and at 70 minutes a VAR review cancelled what looked like a penalty for them. The decision shifted momentum, though El Mokawloon managed to weather the pressure.
El Gouna controlled 65 per cent of possession and registered 114 attacks, but their shots lacked precision — only two found the target from 12 attempts. El Mokawloon, meanwhile, created one big chance and converted it, while their goalkeeper made two saves to keep a clean sheet. The visitors won 21 tackles compared to 10 for the hosts and completed 152 passes against 383.
The result leaves El Gouna third from bottom on two points from two draws, while El Mokawloon remain rooted at 20th place with zero points after two defeats. Both sides enter the next round with work to do, but the away win gives El Mokawloon something to build on.
