Forest Green secured a 3-2 win against Halifax Town in the National League on Saturday evening. The result leaves the hosts three points clear at 13th while Halifax remain rooted in 17th place with six defeats already.
W. Flint opened the scoring in the ninth minute before the visitors responded through F. Mabete just after the interval. S. Etaluku then restored the lead for Forest Green, but K. McAllister's goal in the 79th minute pulled the visitors back into contention. And here's the thing — Z. Gilsenan's injury-time strike sealed it all.
Halifax had more attacking intent, registering 80 attacks compared to 69, and edged the corners 5-2. To be fair, the visitors' goalkeeper made four saves while his counterpart managed only two. Neither side held possession for long stretches, with both sides at 50 per cent.
Forest Green were more clinical with seven shots on target, converting at 44 per cent accuracy. Halifax found the net four times from their efforts but their conversion rate sat at 36 per cent. The hosts also dominated throw-ins 30-27 and earned eight corners.
There were eight substitutions across the match, with Forest Green making five changes to Halifax's three. B. Tollitt was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession, leaving his side with ten men for the final quarter.
The victory extends a run of losses for Halifax, who have not found a win since their opening fixture. Forest Green, meanwhile, continue to swing between results — they beat Bristol City 3-2 last time out but lost heavily to Swindon Town on their previous outing.
