Górnik Łęczna saw off Kalisz 2:0 in the Round of 128 of the Polish Cup on Tuesday evening. The home side took control early and never looked back, opening the scoring inside the first ten minutes before adding a second goal in the second half. The result sends Górnik through to the next stage of the competition.
M. Walski gave Górnik the lead with a penalty in the ninth minute. It was a sharp finish from the spot, and by then the home crowd had already begun to settle into a rhythm. Kalisz had little to show for their opening exchanges, and the visitors were slow to respond.
The second goal came in the fifty-third minute through E. Stadnicki. The striker had been waiting for his chance, and when it arrived he did not hesitate. To be fair, Kalisz had been clinging on for much of the first half, but the home side's control was becoming uncomfortable for the visitors.
Górnik dominated possession at 59 per cent and registered eight attacks compared to Kalisz's seven. They managed six shots off target and two on target, while the visitors could not find the woodwork at all. Kalisz earned two corners to Górnik's nine, and picked up three yellow cards against one for the hosts.
The victory keeps Górnik's momentum going after a mixed run of results in recent weeks. Kalisz, meanwhile, will be disappointed to have gone out without a response, having shown flashes of resilience but ultimately lacking the edge to trouble the home defence. The gap in quality was apparent by the final whistle.
