Tamworth and Boston United played out a 2-2 draw in the National League on Saturday, a result that leaves both sides still searching for consistency in the early stages of the campaign. The match at Lamm Ground produced plenty of chances, though possession was barely split at 51 per cent to 49.
K. Donnelly opened the scoring for Tamworth in the 18th minute, but J. Grimes equalised for Boston United just before the half-hour mark. Tamworth struck again through M. Roberts in the 53rd minute before L. N. John-Lewis grabbed a late equaliser for the visitors in the 63rd minute.
And here's the thing — Tamworth registered eight shots on target compared to Boston United's four, yet the visitors made them count when it mattered. The hosts also had five shots off target, while Boston United managed only two, suggesting Tamworth dallied on the ball in the final third without quite finding the cutting edge.
There were nine substitutions between the two sides, with Tamworth making five changes including K. Donnelly's return after being substituted at 83 minutes. Boston United made four changes, bringing on K. Aboh early at the hour mark.
The result keeps Tamworth in 19th place on five points from six games, while Boston United move up to 15th with seven points. Both teams have three defeats already, and by then it was clear neither side had quite got over the line in terms of form.
