Viitorul Șelimbăr 3:0 Hermannstadt
Viitorul Șelimbăr secured their place in the Romanian Cup final with a comfortable 3:0 victory over Hermannstadt on Tuesday evening. The semi-final clash at the home ground finished without controversy, the hosts controlling proceedings from the opening whistle.
Both sides arrived with mixed recent form. Viitorul had drawn 1:1 with Politehnica Timișoara and lost 1:2 to Gloria Bistrița in their last two outings before that. Hermannstadt's record showed a 3:0 win over Voluntari followed by a 2:3 defeat to the same opposition earlier in June.
The home side's attacking intent was on show throughout. They had previously beaten Dinamo București 2:0 in May and, before that, played out a 1:1 draw with the same opponents. Hermannstadt had also managed a 2:0 victory over FCSB in their May campaign.
The visiting team's recent results suggested vulnerability away from home. Alongside their 3:0 triumph over Voluntari, they had drawn 2:2 with Metaloglobus and 2:2 with Unirea Slobozia in the previous month.
The clean sheet and three-goal margin demonstrated Viitorul's superiority on the night. Hermannstadt failed to register any meaningful response after the opening exchanges, running out of legs as the match progressed.
The result sends Viitorul Șelimbăr through to contest the cup final, while Hermannstadt's season in this competition comes to an end. The hosts will now turn their attention to the final fixture of the tournament.
