About the player
Candan Başkale came through the KRC Genk academy in Belgium, where he played for the club's under-19 side and featured twice in the UEFA Youth League during the 2022/2023 season. In July 2023 he moved across the Belgian league to KVC Westerlo. At Westerlo his football was mostly played with the under-21 side in the Pro League U21, and although he was named in the first-team squad for the Belgian top flight in the 2024/2025 season, he did not feature regularly.
Başkale has represented Turkey at youth level, winning one cap for the under-19 side. On 17 July 2026 he signed for Fatih Karagümrük in Turkey on a free transfer after leaving Westerlo, agreeing a three-year contract with the Trendyol 1. Lig club.
The move to Karagümrük represents a fresh start rather than an established role. So far in the 2026/2027 season he has yet to make an appearance for the first team, more often named among the substitutes than called upon.
