About the player
David McGoldrick returned to Notts County in June 2023, leaving Derby County on a free transfer for League Two despite having just scored 25 goals in all competitions and picked up both the PFA Fans' Player of the Year for League One and Derby's own Player of the Year award. He returned to the club where his career had begun in 2004.
McGoldrick came through at Southampton before a string of loans took him to Bournemouth, Port Vale, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Ipswich Town. A free transfer to Sheffield United in 2018 brought a Championship title the following season and the club's Player of the Year honour.
Internationally, McGoldrick represented the Republic of Ireland, winning 14 caps after a debut in a 4–1 friendly win over the United States in which he set up two goals. He scored his only international goal against Switzerland in September 2019 and was named FAI Senior Men's International Player of the Year that same year, before retiring from international football in August 2020 following Ireland's Euro 2020 play-off semi-final defeat to Slovakia.
At Barnsley, McGoldrick scored 15 league goals in 2025–26 and was named the club's Player of the Year.
