Estêvão earned his nickname long before Chelsea came calling. At Cruzeiro's academy, where his career began in 2017, he was known as "Messinho" — Little Messi. He moved to Palmeiras that May and worked his way through the youth ranks, winning the Campeonato Paulista at Under-15 and Under-17 level along with Under-17 editions of the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Brasileiro.

He made his professional debut for Palmeiras in December 2023, aged 16, and by 2024 had become a fixture in the side, scoring 13 goals in 31 league appearances. That form brought the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A's Best Newcomer award and the Bola de Ouro, which made him the youngest winner in the prize's history at 17. He also picked up the Bola de Prata in the Revelation category. Palmeiras won the Campeonato Paulista in 2024, and Estêvão had already been part of the squad that claimed the Brasileirão title in 2023.

Chelsea announced his signing in June 2024, with the transfer structured in fixed fees and add-ons. He officially joined on turning 18 in July 2025 and was unveiled the following month, making his competitive debut against Crystal Palace in August 2025. He had already faced Chelsea before that — scoring against them in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup while still on Palmeiras' books.

Internationally, he was part of the Brazil side at the 2023 Under-17 World Cup, scoring three goals including a brace against Ecuador, and has since gone on to represent the senior national team.
