About the player
Igor Gershun is a product of the FC Avangard Kursk academy, the club where he made his senior debut in the 2021/22 season. His father, Denis Gershun, was a striker for Avangard, and his grandfather, Igor Olegovich Gershun, played bandy for Torpedo Kursk before spending years as team manager at Avangard.
Over three seasons at Avangard, Gershun made 71 appearances, scoring 14 goals and adding 5 assists, and was part of the squad that took silver in the Second League, Division A, Group 3, in 2023/24. In July 2024 he moved on as a free agent to FC Volga Ulyanovsk. His first goal for the club came against KAMAZ, struck in the 10th minute, and he was on the scoresheet again in an 85th-minute strike as Volga beat Avangard Kursk-Salyut 5-0. That 2024/25 campaign ended with Volga topping Group 4 of the Second League, Division A, and winning promotion to the First League (FNL).
He is under contract with Volga Ulyanovsk until June 2027.
