About the player
Martin Smolenski came through the CSKA Sofia academy, and before he left the club in 2021 he had already picked up a Bulgarian Cup winner's medal in the 2020/21 season. He has since moved to Botev Vratsa, where he wears the number 24 shirt as an attacking midfielder.
His progress through the Bulgaria youth ranks has been steady rather than gradual. At under-17 level he made a strong impression, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances between 2018 and 2020, a return that stands out for a player operating from midfield. He has since been capped once for the under-19s and twice for the under-21s, continuing a path that started with those prolific youth years.
At club level, Smolenski was also part of the CSKA Sofia squad that finished as runners-up in the Bulgarian championship in 2022, adding a second honour to his name before his switch to Botev Vratsa. Since joining the Vratsa-based side, he has made 12 appearances.
