Mateus da Silva Vital Assumpção

Mateus Vital arrived at Shanghai Port in January 2025 with a specific job description: replace Oscar, the club's departing star. He started all 30 of Shanghai Port's Chinese Super League matches in his debut season, contributing five goals and eight assists as the club won the 2025 league title. He added a further goal across eight appearances in the AFC Champions League Elite.

He came through the youth ranks at Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro, making his senior debut there in 2015, before Corinthians paid around €2 million for him in 2017. At Corinthians he won back-to-back Campeonato Paulista titles in 2018 and 2019 and reached the Copa do Brasil final in 2018, later being named the club's player of the month in March 2021. A loan spell at Panathinaikos in 2021–22 brought a Greek Cup winner's medal, with the Greek club holding an option to buy half his rights. He returned to Corinthians before a free move to Cruzeiro in 2023, from where Shanghai Port signed him two years later.

Vital has also represented Brazil at youth level, earning caps with the U15, U17 and U23 sides, scoring twice for the U23s in 2019.
