About the player
The half-season at Hellas Verona ended with the club's Serie A place decided in a relegation playoff against Spezia. Abildgaard, on loan from Rubin Kazan since January 2023, made 13 appearances in that campaign and Verona stayed up.
A year earlier he had gone to Celtic , also on loan, also in January. He appeared six times in the league and finished the season with the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish League Cup to his name, but the loan was cut short before it ran its course.
The route there began at Aalborg Freja and, from 2006, at AaB , where he was handed his senior debut in 2015. 79 league appearances and three goals, before Rubin Kazan took him on loan in February 2020 with an option to buy.
In November 2020 he won his only senior cap for Denmark , in a friendly against Sweden. He had been part of the under-21 side at the 2019 European Under-21 Championship.
He left Russia as a free agent in July 2023 and joined Como , where he made 29 league appearances across two seasons, interrupted by a loan at Pisa in 2024 that brought another 24. Sampdoria signed him in 2025 for an undisclosed fee.
