The club has spent most of its history near the top of the domestic game rather than adjusting to a new level.

That run stretches back to the black-and-gold era that earned the side its nickname, Tigers , and to eight league titles won under a rotating cast of sponsor names — Thrifty, ShowBizCity, FIQAS, Green Park — before the club returned to playing simply as HV Aalsmeer. The most recent of the eight came in 2008–09, paired that year with a Beneliga win over Belgian opposition.

Six Dutch Cups sit alongside those league titles, the last taken in 2007–08, and for one season, 1991–92, the women's team matched the men's habit of collecting silverware by taking the league and cup double on its own. Since then the women's side has faded from the honours list while the men kept adding to theirs.

Jac Stammes spent sixteen years on the pitch for the club and then turned to building its youth academy, the pipeline that later sent players like goalkeeper René de Knegt into the Dutch national team.

None of it existed until July 1932, when a handball section inside the gymnastics club Turnvereniging Aalsmeer split off on its own under C.A. den Boer.
