Algeciras

It is the meeting Algeciras supporters mark first, though the port city has kept up a harder-edged quarrel with Cádiz CF , the province's larger club.

The red-and-white stripes came from Southampton. Rojiblancos has stuck since. Blue shorts complete the kit.

Football here started in 1909 under an English-language name, Algeciras Foot-ball Club, and the club has been renamed, merged and reconstituted repeatedly since.

Twice, in 1986 and 2008, the club went down for reasons that had nothing to do with results — unpaid debts sent it back administratively.

Only one player has gone from Algeciras to the Spanish national side. Juan López Hita, known as El Expreso de Algeciras, won three caps between 1970 and 1972, by which time he was at Sevilla.

The Estadio Nuevo Mirador, opened in 1999 and owned by the city council, holds 7,200. Barbate fill their share of it.
