Chomutov

Chomutov came up from Divize B in 2024 and are back in the third tier, the level they last held for any length of time before the promotion of 2000 took them into the 2. Liga. That spell lasted three seasons and ended in relegation in 2003.

The club was set up in 1926 by the Czech minority of a city that then spoke mostly German. Baník came from the mines; SK VTŽ came from the tube rolling mills, Válcovny trub Chomutov.

The best result in the club's history is not a title. In 1985–86 Chomutov finished second in the I. ČNFL, the second tier of Czechoslovak football, and missed promotion to the top flight. That remains as close as the club has been.

Patrik Gedeon, born in the town in 1975, started his senior career here in 1994 and left after a season. He won the Czech Cup with Slavia Prague, played in Poland with Wisła Płock and took three caps for the Czech Republic in 2002 and 2003. In 2016 he came back to Chomutov as an amateur.

The 4,800-capacity Letní stadion is also known as the Městský stadion. There is no settled derby in football: the club has marketed its meetings with SK Louny as one, and the fixtures against Baník Most and Ústí nad Labem carry weight regionally.

The top flight has never been reached. A hundred years on, the promotion of 1986 is still the near miss the club has not improved on, and a single third-tier title in 2000 remains the only significant honour above regional level.
