Rita Lello and the rest of the senior squad spent the 2025-26 season learning what it takes to share a court with Benfica, twice: first in the final of the Taça de Portugal, then again in the Supertaça, and lost both.

Clube Jovem Almeida Garrett grew out of youth work in the Mafamude area of the city, set up in 1987 to give young women somewhere to play and to grow. It moved between rented gyms around Gaia rather than settling into one ground, and it is at the Pavilhão Municipal Fernando Gomes, opened in 2024, that it has played its biggest matches since.

The fourth, in 2022-23, did: it brought promotion to the top flight, the 1ª Divisão, and arrived in the same season as the club's under-16 and under-18 sides both took the national titles in their age groups.
