Diekirch

Hall Sportif Diekirch sits on Rue Joseph Merten, the hall shared by the wider Centre Sportif et Culturel de Diekirch, the multi-sport body that gave the handball section its name and its initials, CHEV. That parentage explains the club's odd tag: Diekirch's handball side never split from the association that raised it.

The section dates back to 1964, and its best years came in two separate waves. The men's team took the national title in 1993, a decade after winning the Luxembourg Cup in 1990, and reached the last 16 of the EHF Cup Winners' Cup that same 1993-94 campaign, the furthest the club got in Europe. The women followed much later, taking championships in 2012 and 2021 and winning the cup in 2011, 2012 and 2020.

Werner Klöckner's return for the 2023/24 season: the German coach had already taken HB Esch to a European Challenge Cup final before coming to Diekirch.

All of it still runs back to the same address on Rue Joseph Merten, in the sports centre that has housed the club since a group inside CHEV first put together a handball section in 1964.
