Eendracht Aalst

The Denderstreekderby against FCV Dender EH set the calendar in Aalst for years.

The club was put together on 25 June 1919 by men back from the war, drawn from unaffiliated town sides who had been playing without a licence. Under Jan Ceulemans it went up in 1994, reached the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup the following season and then, in the 1995–96 UEFA Cup, knocked out Levski Sofia 3-1 on aggregate before AS Roma ended the run in the round of 32. Gilles De Bilde, later a Golden Shoe winner, came through the same period.

Bankruptcy in 2002 wiped out the original entity and its matricule number 90. What followed was a reconstruction from the bottom: champions of Promotion B in 2006–07, of the Third Division in 2010–11, and of Division 2 in 2023–24 — that last title without a promotion, the licence refused.

The Pierre Cornelisstadion; the licensed capacity had shrunk to 4,500, and during 2024/25 safety and licensing problems forced the club out of the ground altogether and out of the provincial leagues with it. In February 2025 a second bankruptcy was declared, and the merger with Jong Lede produced K. Eendracht Aalst Lede.

De Ajuinen — the Onions, as the town has always called them — never won the Belgian Cup, and the three visits to the top flight, in 1942, 1960 and 1994, never turned into a stay. Aalst has now to find out what the merged club is, and whether the derby survives it.
