Europa

The Rock, as a place, produces the kind of club that owes its existence less to a founding committee than to whoever happened to be standing around with a ball. It has spent the century since as the standing rival to Lincoln Red Imps, the two of them meeting in what everyone on the peninsula simply calls the derby.

The record that stands out is 2016–17, when Europa took the Premier Division title and broke a run of years in which Lincoln Red Imps had more or less owned the competition. They added another league title in 2019–20, and across the Rock Cup they have gone in eleven times, including a run of three straight from 2017 to 2019 that came alongside the league win and the Pepe Reyes Cup.

Continental football has been a shorter story. Europa got through a qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League in 2016–17, beating FC Pyunik along the way, and matched that depth in the Champions League qualifiers in 2020–21. Since then they have made the Europa Conference League a fixture, reaching the first qualifying round four years running from 2021–22 through to 2026–27, without yet finding a way past it.

They play at the Victoria Stadium, on Winston Churchill Avenue, ground they share with the rest of the island's league. It holds a small crowd by any continental measure, which is simply what football in Gibraltar looks like.
