Two summers in a row, MP carried the Suomen Cup back to Mikkeli. The wins came in 1970 and 1971, and the first of them arrived in the same season the club finished runners-up in the top flight — a mark it would match again in 1972 and, two decades later, in 1991.

Home is Mikkelin Urheilupuisto , known locally as Urski, with room for 7,000. On the days that mattered, that was a large share of the town inside one ground.

The 1975 Viking-cup sits slightly apart from the rest of the honours — a tournament win that belongs to the same stretch of years as the cup runs.

Then came a long thinning-out. The bronze of 1990 and the silver of 1991 were the last of that kind, and they closed a period rather than opening one. Across its history the club has spent 25 seasons in the top division of Finnish football, which is a substantial number and also a finite one: the seasons since have been played elsewhere.
