Panama U23

The ground in Panama City carries the name of Rommel Fernández, and every age group of the national set-up passes through it. That is the shape of this team — an age-restricted squad drawn together by the Panamanian Football Federation rather than a club with a badge.

Their afternoon came a long way from home. On 18 June 2023, at the Stade Marcel Roustan in Salon-de-Provence, Panama beat Mexico 4–1 to win the Maurice Revello Tournament. Ricardo Phillips opened the scoring before half-time; José Bernal, Kahiser Lenis and Ángel Orelien added the rest across a 34-minute spell after the break. Jorge Dely Valdés was the coach. Australia had been put out 2–1 in the semi-final.

The year before, the same tournament had ended in seventh place, with a 4–1 win over Comoros to settle it and Orelien scoring twice against Saudi Arabia in the group stage.

Behind all of it sits the federation, founded in 1937, admitted to FIFA the following year and among the founding members of CONCACAF in 1961. The under-23s have no birthday of their own — they inherit that one.
