Sheppey United

Holm Park holds only 1,530, with 170 seats and covered standing for another 300. Sheppey United only settled there permanently in 2013, after years of ground-sharing and a spell competing as AFC Sheppey while the original club worked its way back from resigning out of the Kent League in 2001.

The name traces to a merger of Sheerness Victoria and Invicta in 1890. The club was a founding member of both the Southern League and the Kent League in 1894, and for decades the Kent League was where it did its winning: titles in 1905–06 and 1906–07, then three more between 1972–73 and 1978–79. The step up came in 2021–22, when Sheppey won the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division and its League Cup in the same season.

The FA Cup had been a source of near-misses — a run to the sixth qualifying round back in 1919–20 was the ceiling for over a century — until 2023–24, when the club reached the First Round Proper for the first time and drew Walsall in front of 1,450 at Holm Park, a record for the ground.

Herbert Chapman turned out for Sheppey United in 1899–1900, a season before the name meant anything and decades before it meant Huddersfield Town and Arsenal's title-winning sides. More recently the shirt has belonged to Jack Midson, who arrived in 2020, scored his way into the side and then took it over as player-manager — the kind of progression clubs at this level rarely get to keep for themselves.
