Strela

Under head coach Jacobus Paulus Nel the Kazan side also lifted the Rugby 7s championship in 2025.

Founded in 1967 as a student side, it played for more than two decades under the name Burevestnik before switching to Strela in 1989. The current identity dates only to November 2023, when Nel's rebranding push and a partnership with the Ak Bars holding added the second half of the name. The green and red kept from that earlier era echo the Tatarstan flag, and the nickname Zilanty ties the club to the winged serpent of Kazan's own city legend.

Under rugby league rules, the club won the Russian Championship five years running from 1995 to 1999 and took the Cup in 1993, a run built by players such as Maxim Romanov and Robert Ilyasov.

Enisey-STM and VVA-Podmoskovye complete the short list of rivals whose results Kazan watches most closely.
