Toulouse Women

Four titles in a row is not a common line for a French club, women's or men's, but that is what Toulouse strung together between 1999 and 2002, and they closed the run by adding the Coupe de France in the final year to complete the double. That side also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Cup in 2002.

The team began life in 1980 as the women's section of Toulouse Olympique Aérospatial, only becoming part of Toulouse FC proper in 2001, midway through that title-winning stretch. It kept the parent club's colours, purple and white, and its nickname, Les Violettes, and settled at the Stade de la Ramée, a 3,000-seat ground it leaves only for the occasional bigger occasion at the Stadium de Toulouse.

Sandrine Rouquet was part of that 2001-02 double-winning squad, while Mélanie Briche collected four titles with the club before moving into coaching rugby sevens. Valérie Gauvin came up through the academy and went on to play for France, and Lilas Traïkia stands as the club's all-time leading scorer. Their derby with Girondins de Bordeaux, the Derby de la Garonne, has given the fixture list its sharpest edge over the years.

Since that peak, Toulouse have spent long spells rebuilding from below the top flight, winning the second tier in 1994, 2012 and again in 2026, and adding a third-tier title in 2024. The gap between those honours says as much about where the club has been as the 1999-2002 run says about where it once stood.
