Handball Trapani took shape in Sicily as a women's project, giving Trapani a second club alongside Handball Erice and, with it, a fixture the local press calls the derby trapanese. It has carried the maroon and black since 2018 and plays before no more than 400 people at the PalaCardella, a gap that has not stopped it competing at the top of Serie A2.
An unbeaten league campaign under Luca Vitale Alvarez ended with a 30-20 win over Città del Redentore Nuoro in Chieti, sealing promotion to Serie A1 for the first time. Carmen Stellato scored nine of those goals in the final, while Josefina Lusarreta had carried the scoring load through the season with 51 in the league.
Behind the senior side, an Under-16 team took the regional title this year as well. What it still lacks is anything won in Serie A1 itself, or any of the recognised national prizes — the Serie A1 title, the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana.
