«The Doughboys»
Wellingborough sits in Northamptonshire as a market town that has watched its non-league side vanish once already and come back. The original club dated to 1867, one of the older names in the county, and it kept going until 2002, when it resigned from the United Counties League and folded. Two years later a group of supporters put it together again, among them the snooker player Peter Ebdon and Laurie Owen, who took over as club president. The reformed side started out in the Northamptonshire Senior Youth League before working its way back into the United Counties League.
The old club had produced players who went well beyond Wellingborough: Phil Neal went on to Liverpool and England, Vic Watson became West Ham United's record goalscorer, and Frederick "Fanny" Walden played for Tottenham Hotspur and England. The reformed club had its own moment in 2008, when former Premier League striker Trevor Benjamin joined to help steady its finances, and more recently Nathan Hicks, cousin of England international Ivan Toney, has worn the shirt.
The club is known as the Doughboys, a name taken from the local dish "Hock & Dough," and its derby with Wellingborough Whitworth is about as close as local rivalries get: the two grounds are separated by a single fence. Honours have come in bursts across both eras, from Southern League and Metropolitan League titles in the late 1960s to the United Counties League Premier South Division in 2023–24 and a run to the Fourth Round of the FA Vase the following season.
Home games are played in yellow and blue at the Dog & Duck Stadium on London Road, where the reformed club has spent recent years building a youth structure, including a 2025 partnership with Moulton College, and where the relaunched reserve side has turned out since the 2018/19 season.
