Arena Zlatorog

Celje, Slovenia

The doors opened in December 2003 , and the building has not changed its name or its purpose since. It is not a football stadium, and the turf is purely for indoor sports.

Inside, the floor is marked for basketball and handball, and that is where things get interesting. The handball club RK Celje calls it home, and the arena’s name links directly to the team’s sponsor, Pivovarna Laško, which supplies the name and also owns the mascot, a white chamois called Zlatorog. The seating capacity of 5,191 is not enormous, but it is tight enough to keep the crowd within earshot of the players.

The managing company, ZPO Celje d.o.o., runs everything, and there is no separate website for the arena itself.

For a city that prefers its football played on grass under open sky, this place exists for indoor competitions. It is a working building, nothing more.
