The Arto Tolsa Areena was raised for a tournament that had nothing to do with Kotka's own football calendar: Helsinki hosted the 1952 Olympic Games, and the organising committee needed grounds beyond the capital to spread the matches out. Kotka got one of them, built under the plain name Kotkan urheilukeskus, and the pitch has carried Olympic football since before most of the stadiums it now gets compared to existed at all.

KTP has played here through the decades that followed, on a ground that holds 4,780 — a number that places it among the smaller Olympic-era venues still in use, not among the showpieces. The stadium sits on Puistotie, close enough to the centre that it reads as part of the town rather than an out-of-town complex.

The pitch itself has moved with the times: grass gave way to an artificial surface, a change that keeps the ground playable through the wet stretches of the Finnish season without the pitch cutting up the way older natural surfaces did. It is a practical fix rather than a cosmetic one, and it says something about a stadium that has had to keep working for over seventy years rather than being retired to memory.
