Atwood Stadium

That was decades ago, of course, long before the 2015 renovation replaced the original AstroTurf with modern FieldTurf. The surface change came nearly a century after the stadium opened in 1929, when Edwin W. Atwood donated land that would become one of Michigan's most enduring football venues.

The artificial surface stretches across the entire pitch, maintained for Kettering University athletics and the Flint City Bucks, though the stadium has hosted everything from high school football to minor-league baseball over its long history.

Flint's Carriage Town district provides context for the stadium's location, sitting within a historic area of downtown that has seen its share of changes. The 11,000-seat capacity might seem modest by modern standards.
