Audi Sportpark
Ingolstadt, Germany
The grounds were built from scratch to replace the old ESV-Stadion, which had ceased to meet the requirements for the 2. Bundesliga. The project was handled by assmann architekten GmbH, with construction beginning on May 22, 2009. The venue opened on July 24, 2010, replacing the previous facility with a modern hybrid grass surface. The initial design held 15,800 spectators.
During matches in European competitions, the advertising boards are covered to allow the stadium to be referred to as FC Ingolstadt 04 Arena, complying with UEFA regulations. The record crowd of 15,617 appeared for a Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich in May 2016.
The stadium has also hosted international fixtures for the German national teams, including a Women’s match against North Korea in 2011. Corporate events and concerts feature regularly, with acts like Roxette performing at the Audi RockPop Festival in 2011. A proposal to add a second tier to the opposite stand was commissioned in 2015–2016 after the club’s promotion to the 1. Bundesliga, but the expansion was never physically realized, leaving the original structure intact.
