Ballei-Sporthalle
Neckarsulm, Germany
The Ballei-Sporthalle sits in Neckarsulm, where the Teutonic Order once held sway. The name refers to that historical administrative district, not a sponsor. What remains is a concrete hall with a parquet floor, built in 1979.
The playing surface is wooden, standard for indoor handball. The venue hosts the women's team of Sport-Union Neckarsulm in the Handball-Bundesliga Frauen. The men's side also plays selected matches there. An Audi-Tribüne section exists within the hall, a nod to the city's industrial past, though the name no longer appears on the building itself.
Capacity figures vary between 1,125 and 1,500. It has hosted international fixtures, including a Soviet Union men's national team friendly in 1989 and a German versus Romanian women's match in 2009. Germany U19 games have used the floor as well.
The hall is managed by the City of Neckarsulm. Cultural events and concerts take place alongside the matches. The address is Deutschordensplatz 1, 74172 Neckarsulm.
