The venue has never changed its purpose since it opened. It is an ice sports hall, and that is what it remains. The current name is a recent development; the sponsorship deal with the solder company Balver Zinn ended after the firm fell into insolvency. The building is simply the Stadtwerke Arena again. The old name, Eissporthalle Iserlohn, sits quietly in the history books alongside the reference to Seilersee.
The capacity figures on the card are a result of a conversion. The rear section was once a simple standing terrace, but it was reworked into a VIP area for the 2007/08 season.
The architecture speaks of function rather than ceremony. This is not a temple of football. It is a place where the ice is kept frozen by mechanical refrigeration, and the heat of the game stays inside.
