Barbourfields Stadium

In the Barbourfields suburb of Bulawayo, the stadium sits under the open sky. Highlanders F.C. call it home, and the supporters have long referred to the place as Emagumeni — "our yard" in isiNdebele.

The pitch is natural grass. The first grandstand went up in the early 1960s, seating around 1,500 people. By the mid-1970s, two additional stands brought the total to 18,000. Recent reports suggest an all-seated capacity of roughly 23,000, though the city council lists a maximum of 34,000. The difference comes down to whether standing areas are counted.

The highest recorded turnout was 25,957 for a Highlanders versus Dynamos clash in July 2012. The stadium itself needs work; renovations worth ten million dollars would bring it up to international standards.

Ownership rests with the Bulawayo City Council, which manages the facility alongside other sports venues in the city. There is no official website dedicated to the stadium, though broader municipal information can be found online.
