What the ground is now was decided in 2017. Two covered stands went up, East and West, 1,200 seats each; the south and north were reseated end to end; television platforms, an LED screen and a reworked lighting rig followed. That took the capacity to 9,200 and earned the pitch a UEFA category three rating.

The floodlights had already had their first outing two years earlier, in September 2015, when Belasica played Academy Pandev under them and 5,000 came to watch a fixture that would otherwise have kicked off in daylight.

The visitors' list runs further back. Canada were beaten 3-0 here in a friendly in 2009 with 3,500 in; Armenia lost 3-1 in 2023, with 2,075. FIFA president Sepp Blatter came to Strumica in 2005 to unveil a memorial plaque on the ground.
