While the city has a gleaming arena for the first team, this ground remains a working facility for the reserve squad and the women’s side. The playing surface is natural grass, which has been in place since 1953. In 2002, the club replaced the old terraces with covered steel tube stands. The main stand offers seating for the press and visitors, while the opposite side is mostly standing room. The stadium held a significant place in German football history. It hosted the DFL-Ligapokal finals in 2003 and 2004, and it was the venue for the 1974 final of the German Women's Football Championship. Three years after the first team departed for the new Coface Arena, the north stand was dismantled, reducing the official capacity to 7,134. The seat backs are faded, and the advertising hoardings show the wear of a local venue. The pitch is level and rectangular, with white lines that mark the boundaries clearly against the green. Tall floodlights stand at each end, casting long shadows across the field in the evening.
