Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas

Vallecas is one of the few grounds in Madrid where the neighbourhood, not the club's ambition, shaped the building. It opened on 10 May 1976 with a match against Valladolid, after four years of construction on the same ground the club had used before, and it has never chased the scale of the city's other two stadiums. Rayo Vallecano built a home for the district of Puente de Vallecas, and the district still fills it.

The capacity has only ever moved downward. It held 20,000 at opening, dropped to 15,500 in 1996 when standing areas gave way to seats, and settled at 14,708 in 2011 after the perimeter fencing came out. That last change put fans closer to the pitch than at almost any other ground in the top flight, and it is the detail regulars mention first.

The stadium carried the name Estadio Teresa Rivero for years, after the club's former president, before reverting to its current, plainer title. It hosted the 1940 Copa del Rey final, long before the current structure existed, and on 3 August 1986 took a crowd of 25,000 for a Queen concert, a number well above anything the ground now allows for a football match.

Age has caught up with the place. Safety concerns forced a temporary closure in 2018, and the club has since moved in stages rather than all at once: lighting and camera work updated in 2021, a further €2 million phase begun in 2024–2025, with a €60 million rebuild planned to lift capacity to around 18,500. Until that work lands, Vallecas remains a natural-grass ground run at a size its board keeps insisting is temporary.
