Campo de Fútbol Municipal de Barreiro

Barreiro has two grounds that tell the same story from opposite ends. Down by the river the Estádio Dr. Manuel de Mello came and went — opened in 1953, demolished in 2007-2008 — and the newer Verderena replaced it as home to F.C. Barreirense. The Estádio Alfredo da Silva did the opposite: it stayed. Football had already been played on the site since the 1920s under the old CUF works club, and when the current ground opened in 1965 it simply carried that tenancy forward, unbroken, into what is now GD Fabril do Barreiro.

The naming reflects the same industrial lineage. Alfredo da Silva gave his name to the sports complex that still houses the ground, a legacy of the CUF conglomerate that once dominated employment in the town; GD Fabril's own predecessor identity, GD CUF, points the same way. The main stand was rebuilt in 1988 under municipal ownership, which is also when the ground took on the municipal name it carries today.

At 4,500 capacity, it sits well below what a club with an industrial-era pedigree might once have drawn, but Fabril has never needed more than a mid-sized ground to match its level. The pitch remains natural grass, at regulation dimensions, unremarkable next to the club's own history rather than because of it.
