The stadium in Vila-real has spent a century being rebuilt rather than replaced. It opened in 1923 as the modest Campo del Villarreal, and by 1925 it already carried a new name, El Madrigal, one it kept through decades of piecemeal growth — extra terracing in the 1950s, fresh stands through the 1960s and 70s, then the north and south sides added between 1988 and 2001. Nothing about that history reads as a single grand construction; it reads as a club adding what it could, when it could.

The turn came with the 2016–2017 overhaul, when the club laid down a hybrid pitch, a move that made the ground one of the first in Spain to adopt the technology. A further reconstruction followed in 2022, timed to the stadium's centenary and closing the bowl in completely — a project reported to have cost somewhere between €35 million and €70 million.

The ground now holds around 23,008, though older counts put the figure closer to 21,332, and stands on C/ Blasco Ibáñez in Vila-real, Castellón. It has been home to Villarreal CF throughout, carrying the club's own name for its formative decades before the current branding as Estadio de la Cerámica took hold, a nod to the tile industry that built the town around it.
