Complexe Sportif des Ambrosis

The Complexe Sportif des Ambrosis is located in the Quartier des Ambrosis in Plan-de-Cuques. The facility underwent a recent transformation. The women’s handball team, Les Guerrières, earned promotion to the top tier of French handball in 2020.

The renovation was completed in 2022. The project saw the construction of a new 560-seat structure opposite the historic stands, which hold 300 seats. The cost, roughly €2.5 million including tax, was split evenly between the city and the department. This money bought more than just seats; it funded a 250-square-metre partner area, a dedicated press room, and an anti-doping facility, turning a modest local pitch into a venue capable of hosting Division 1 matches. During the three-month construction window, the handball club had to relocate, a temporary disruption that highlights how central this ground is to the team’s identity.

The complex also caters to football through Club Athlétique Plan-de-Cuques. While the handball venue features an artificial pitch, the adjacent football stadium retains a stabilized, gravel-like surface, creating a small contrast within the same compound. The indoor hall, Gymnase des Ambrosis, remains the spiritual heart for the handballers, offering 350 seats for their regular games. Outside, the new stand dominates the view, yet the old concrete remains visible behind it, a reminder of the period before the investment. The facility now hosts the annual Femina Hand’Cup tournament, drawing attention to a town that, until recently, kept its sporting ambitions quiet.
