What sets this ground apart from a routine modern-build bowl is what has passed through it that had nothing to do with the home side. The pitch hosted football at the 2012 Olympics, and the 2011 Women's FA Cup final, so its record book reads more like a multi-sport venue's than a club stadium's.
The touring acts tell the same story. The Rolling Stones , Bruce Springsteen , Oasis , Coldplay , Rihanna and Harry Styles have all played here, alongside Take That , Muse and the Spice Girls — a run of bookings that has kept the arena as busy off the football calendar as on it.
The attendance record was not set by a club fixture at all: 32,128 turned out for England against Italy on 19 February 2023, filling the ground closer to capacity than most domestic nights manage.
