Dongguan Sports Center Stadium
Dongguan, China
It took the basketball finals of the 9th National Games in 2001, then the weightlifting at the 16th Asian Games in 2010, and Chinese Basketball Association fixtures involving Guangdong Hongyuan . Concerts came through the wider complex too, among them Jacky Cheung's 2018 tour, though the newer basketball centre next door now takes most of that work.
Its first act came within weeks of completion. The stadium opened on 15 October 1994, and that same year it staged the 7th World Finswimming Championships — a rare enough discipline that the booking says something about how the complex was conceived.
That absence of a settled tenant eventually told. What is left on the pitch is the city team Dongguan , in the provincial Yue Chao league.
In August 2024 the city announced a modernisation programme worth more than 56 million yuan. Until then it had carried its original name and its original structure, with no sponsor's badge attached and no rebuild to speak of.
