Dvorana Kodeljevo

Športna dvorana Kodeljevo sits in Ljubljana at Gortanova ulica 21, part of a complex that began taking shape around 1960. The park opened its football ground in 1959, and the hall followed later, with 1970 often cited as its year of construction.

It belongs to the Public Institution Sport Ljubljana. Over the years the relationship between the club and the venue has deepened; RD Slovan and KD Slovan play their games here, and the hall is sometimes called Dvorana Slovan by those who watch them, though it is not an official former name. The wooden parquet floor is set for handball, basketball, futsal and volleyball, and the capacity sits at 1,370, though other accounts suggest 1,540 or even 3,080 for a full house.

Arenas like this do not attract the crowds of a football stadium. A crowd of 1,500 once gathered for a Champions League match in the 2018/19 season, and the Spar Cup basketball finals have been held within its walls. It has simply been kept up. An annex was added between 2009 and 2011, and a complete energy renovation finished in September 2018, bringing in new LED lighting and ventilation to replace the old system.

You can find the names of players who passed through its doors in the records: Goran and Zoran Dragić, Rašo Nesterović and Uroš Zorman all trained here. The Slovenian women’s national handball and basketball teams have also played matches on this floor. It is not a grand arena; it is a working hall where the games are played and the players are made.
