Palace of Sports

The Dynamo Sports Palace does not sit on a pitch but on parquet. Built specifically for the 1980 Summer Olympics, the venue opened that year in the Khovrino district of Moscow. The architects—Mikhalev, Rozanov, Chivikov, and Milashevsky—designed a space intended for basketball and handball. The official capacity stands at 5,000, a figure confirmed by multiple sources, though one initially listed 1,500. That error has been corrected. MBC Dynamo Moscow played here until 2006, when the team relocated to Krylatskoye. The new location in Krylatskoye, now Basket Hall Moscow, is a separate facility opened in 2006. The original hall hosted Dynamo Moscow volleyball until 2019. Current tenants include BC Runa, CSKA-2, and MGTU Volleyball. The venue also hosted the finals of the 'Pesnya-85' music festival in 1985, a rare occasion for a sporting arena of its type. The distinction between the two Dynamo Sports Palaces in Moscow is often lost in translation; the German term 'Sporthalle' applies generically, and a similarly named hall exists in Berlin. This one, however, remains in Khovrino.
