Eishalle Campus Huttwil
Huttwil, Switzerland
Formerly: Eishalle Huttwil, Nationales Sportzentrum Huttwil
The ice is artificial, but the story of the Eishalle Campus Huttwil is not about the surface. In May 2011 the refrigeration machines failed. The operation did not resume until November 2016, after a long period of feasibility studies and funding agreements with the municipality and lottery funds. The operator, Campus Perspektiven, covered the costs with a six-figure investment while the town provided subsidies.
Today the arena sits in the Schwarzenbach district, part of the Campus Perspektiven sports complex. The roof covers 3,500 seats, a modest number for a facility that has hosted top-tier teams. Hockey Huttwil plays here, the club formed in 2018 when EHC Brandis moved from Hasle-Rüegsau. The official all-time attendance record remains 1,664 spectators, set on March 1, 2022, during the playoff final against EHC Basel.
The grounds have seen Swiss Ice Hockey Cup matches against National League sides. HC Lugano came in 2018; SC Bern and EHC Biel followed in 2019; SCL Tigers arrived in 2020. SC Langenthal Damen also use the rink for their games in the Swiss Women's Hockey League.
Municipal subsidies climbed from CHF 96,000 to CHF 295,000 in 2024 to cover the deficit in ice production.
