Inside the enclosure, the ice is artificial and white, reflecting the pale winter sky. Players skate in scattered groups, their movements quiet and contained. The building itself is low and functional, a block of concrete and glass that blends into the surrounding sports complex. There is nothing particularly grand about the architecture; it is a place built for utility. The name "Rheintal" is worn on the facade, marking its role as a hub for the local communities of Au, Berneck, Diepoldsau, and Widnau, who jointly run the facility. The ice surface is marked with the standard lines for hockey, though the arena also hosts figure skating events and public sessions.

The stands are modest, holding just 1,500 people. They are close to the action, but the atmosphere is more communal than electric. Fans sit bundled against the cold, watching their team, SC Rheintal, the "Luchse," compete in the third tier of Swiss hockey. The club has been around since 1964, long before the current structure was erected in 1988. The building is showing its age now, with renovation projects discussed as it nears the end of its lifespan. For now, the game continues on the artificial ice, under the floodlights and the watchful eye of the mountains.
