Elmfields Gate

Elmfields Gate does not loom over Winslow; it sits within it. The land was purchased by the parish council in 1949, shifting from the older names of Bell Closes and Mill Close to become the Recreation Ground. That is where the story begins, rather than with the football pitch itself. The facility was developed over the 1950s and 1960s, reshaping the sporting hub to accommodate the local club, Winslow United F.C., which was founded in 1891.

The surface is natural grass, worn by decades of use by the football club and the local cricket team. The ground is sometimes referred to interchangeably as the Recreation Ground.

What distinguishes the ground is the memory of a specific afternoon in May 2026. The record attendance of 1,008 was set during a Southern League Division One Central Promotion Play-off Final against Cockfosters F.C. The ground has hosted matches for other local teams such as Leverstock Green F.C., but it remains the home of the United.
