The ground stands in Vega de Acá, on the eastern edge of Almería, close to the Andarax and closer still to the airport. Antonio Lamela, working with Estudio Ángel Verdasco, designed it for the Ayuntamiento de Almería at a cost of around €21 million, and the 2005 Mediterranean Games got their opening and closing ceremonies here, La Fura dels Baus and David Bisbal on the infield, and the football gold-medal match, which Spain took off Turkey in front of 15,000.

That inheritance still shapes it. The athletics track that hosted the Spanish championships in 2004 kept spectators at a distance for years; between 2012 and 2022 temporary stands were laid over it, pushing capacity to somewhere above 22,000.

Unión Deportiva Almería have been the tenants since the first match on 29 August 2004, and the ground's defining night came on 19 May 2007, when a 3–1 win over Ponferradina under Unai Emery carried the club into La Liga for the first time. Spain returned in February 2005 to beat San Marino 5–0 in a World Cup qualifier, and the 2021 Spanish Women's Super Cup was played out here, Atlético Madrid winning the final.

The name has moved with the money: Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos until 2022, Power Horse Stadium for two seasons, UD Almería Stadium since June 2024.
