The Intendencia de Maldonado built it from scratch in 1994, inside the Campus Municipal complex on Calle Burnett, and named it after Доминго Бургеньо Мигель, the intendente who ordered the work and held the office from 1989 to 1998.

Then, for the better part of three decades, the ground drew mostly national-team dates — Уругвай 5:3 over Эквадор in a World Cup qualifier on 16 November 1997, a 0:1 friendly defeat to Парагвай on 17 November 1999 — and the U-20 South American Championship in 2015.

What changed things was the rebuild of 2022–2023 to CONMEBOL and FIFA specification: new floodlighting, 1,500 VIP seats, reworked stands, dressing rooms and drainage, a screen and a new sound system. That is why the Copa Sudamericana final landed here on 28 October 2023, ЛДУ Кито and Форталеза finishing 1:1 before the Ecuadorians won 4:3 on penalties. In January 2025 the pitch held a charity match, Роналдиньо's Brazilian side beating a Uruguayan one 9:8.
