Estadio José Ángel Rossi

Cobán sits inland, in coffee country, and its ground has always doubled as more than a football pitch. When it opened, on 1 August 1936, against Guatemala's reigning champions Tipografía Nacional, the site carried an acoustic shell for concerts and a racetrack alongside the field — a venue built for the town's public life, not just match days. The shell is gone now, torn down years later, but the stadium kept going under its original name, Estadio Verapaz.

The current name came in 1986, on the ground's fiftieth anniversary, when it was renamed for José Ángel Rossi Ponce, a local figure who had worked the place as both concierge and coach. It is the kind of tribute that says more about a community than a sponsor's name ever could, and it has stuck without a single commercial rebrand since.

The stadium has hosted three national short-tournament finals, with Cobán Imperial finishing runner-up twice, and it has seen the club's Copa Centroamericana nights under CONCACAF. The Guatemalan national team has never played there. On a ground built for 15,000, with a natural grass surface that has hosted everything from title deciders to open-air concerts, that absence stands out more than anything printed on the scoreboard.
